This high-altitude journey begins among Lhasa’s monasteries and old streets, then continues west through Shigatse, Yamdrok Lake and Everest Base Camp. The first days introduce Tibetan religious architecture and everyday local culture; the route then unfolds through sacred lakes, glaciers, the historic town of Gyantse and Himalayan landscapes. Its pace allows time to acclimatise while keeping the focus on monasteries, nature and Tibetan life.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Lhasa Lhasa

Meet your driver on arrival at Lhasa Airport and transfer to your hotel. No sightseeing is scheduled today, allowing time to slow down and begin adjusting to the altitude.

Day 2 Lhasa Monasteries and Welcome Dinner Lhasa

After breakfast, visit Drepung Monastery to explore the history and monastic setting of one of the Gelug school’s important institutions. Continue to Sera Monastery, set against the foothills of Lhasa, for a closer encounter with the city’s enduring religious traditions. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner to mark the beginning of the journey.

Day 3 Lhasa’s Sacred Heart Lhasa

Visit the Potala Palace, whose palatial and monastic spaces reflect Tibet’s intertwined religious and political history. Continue to Zongjiao Lukang Park, a local gathering place with views back towards the palace. In the afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple and take a gentle walk through Barkhor Street, where pilgrims and kora walkers shape the rhythm of the old city. This evening, visit a Tibetan tea house for an unhurried introduction to Lhasa’s social life.

Day 4 Lhasa to Shigatse: Sacred Lake, Glacier and Gyantse Shigatse

Leave Lhasa by vehicle for Shigatse. The route includes views of Yamdrok Lake and a stop at Karola Glacier, followed by passage through Gyantse, a historic town of the Tibetan plateau. On arrival in Shigatse, settle in and rest before the Everest portion of the journey.

Day 5 Journey towards Everest Everest

Travel from Shigatse towards the Everest region today. Pause at Gawula Pass for expansive views across highland valleys and the Himalayan range. Continue to Everest Base Camp, where the scale of the mountains and the high-altitude setting create a powerful sense of arrival.

Note: Please bring warm clothing for your personal use, as well as any daily essentials you may need. Especially in winter, temperatures here can be extremely low.

Day 6 Rongbuk Monastery and Return to Shigatse Shigatse

After breakfast, visit Rongbuk Monastery. Set on Everest’s northern approach, it adds a religious perspective to the previous day’s mountain experience and is an important place from which to view the surrounding landscape. Afterwards, return to Shigatse by vehicle.

Day 7 Tashilhunpo and the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley Lhasa

Cancellation policy

Cancellation fees are calculated from the date AriaTravel receives the written cancellation request.

If the cancellation is made between 45 and 30 days before the scheduled departure date 10% of tour price
If the cancellation is made between 29 and 15 days before the scheduled departure date 30% of tour price
If the cancellation is made between 14 and 7 days before the scheduled departure date 50% of tour price
If the cancellation is made 6 days or less before the scheduled departure date, including the departure date 100% of tour price
