Zhangjiajie Essentials: Avatar Landscapes and Mountain Wonders

Welcome to Zhangjiajie, where the sandstone pillars of Wulingyuan rise just beyond the town. Meet the local team on arrival and transfer to your hotel in or near the Wulingyuan area. After checking in, take time to rest after your journey — the mountain programme begins the next morning.

Enter Wulingyuan Scenic Area, a UNESCO-listed landscape of countless sandstone pillars. Take the Bailong Elevator, the world's tallest outdoor lift ascending the cliff face — subject to daily operations. At the top, explore Yuanjiajie, where its towering pinnacles inspired scenes in the film Avatar. Continue to Tianzi Mountain, known for mist-shrouded peaks and sweeping views across the stone columns. Descend with a sightseeing ride through the Ten-Mile Gallery, a valley trail lined with rock formations, if the tram is operating.

Discover Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, where steep cliffs drop into a deep valley and the region shows a rougher, more dramatic side. Continue to Baofeng Lake, framed by green hills and distinctive rock formations. The shift from the canyon's rugged forms to the lake's still water gives the day its own rhythm — two very different ways of seeing the same landscape. After sightseeing, transfer to your hotel in downtown Zhangjiajie and settle in for the night.

Spend the morning on Tianmen Mountain, riding one of the world's longest cable cars up to cliff-hugging walkways, the natural arch of Tianmen Cave and views that drop straight away beneath you. Later, visit the spectacular 72 Qilou, where local culture and the illuminated towers make for an easy, photogenic evening. Return to the hotel for your final night in Zhangjiajie.

Spend the morning exploring Zhangjiajie at your own pace — a last walk through the old town, a bowl of local noodles, or simply a slow start to the day. At the agreed time, your driver will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport for departure.
